Gate House, 1.508.362.8300. Phone for Information. Sometimes the beach is closed due to high tides.
Sandy Neck is on Cape Cod off of Route 6A on the Barnstable/Sandwich town lines. This is between exits 4 and 5 on Route 6. Coming from off Cape take Exit 3 (that's right 3), go left (North) to Route 6A and take a Right. Go South on 6A for 3-4 miles past Sears Auto Sales and over Scorton Creek. Just a bit after Spring Meadow Farm on the left is the entrance road. The nice person at the Gate House will take your $20.00 and have you fill out a really crazy form. You park in the upper lot unless they have changed the rules.
The ride takes about 3-3 1/2 - 4 hours and is 15 miles. You could cut it short if you or your horse decide to. Watch the weather and bring a jacket, always. The coldest I've ever been riding was on Sandy Neck. One August evening after a very warm day it got windy and cold just before dark. I had just a light shirt on and I was frozen before I got to the truck.
The Braley Dune Trail has magnificent vista views of the beach, ocean and mainland and several miles of other dunes too! There is a large deer herd on the Neck and it's not unusual to see a few. Other common wildlife are coyotes, raccoons, and the usual denizens of the forest such as squirrels and rabbits, crows and hawks and the occasional turtle.
